A man charged in three cases of attempt to murder was lynched in Chennai by seven men on Thursday. The man — identified as 28-year-old Diwakar — was killed in Chennai’s Kasimedu, a port area, on Thursday night.CCTV footage of the murder, which IndiaToday.in is withholding because of its distressing nature, shows Diwakar standing at the end of lane when a group of men casually walks by. Suddenly, one of the men from the group lunges at Diwakar with what looks like a stick. The man ferociously hits Diwakar who instantly falls down.At that point, even as bystanders run away in apparent fear for their lives, the seven men converge upon the prone Diwakar and begin mercilessly beating him with sticks. After a few seconds, all seven run away into the lane.Local police soon arrived at the scene and took Diwakar to a nearby hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival.The 28-year-old Diwakar is named in three attempt to murder cases. He worked as a water can supplier for boats at the Kasimedu port. He was killed on Thursday night while he was returning from work.An investigation is underway to probe the reason behind the murder and the police are currently on the hunt for the seven men involved in the murder.
