CHENNAI: Police on Friday arrested a woman on charges of killing her husband and staging a suicide drama at New Washermenpet on Wednesday. An autopsy on her the woman’s husband confirmed that Thanigaivel, 46, a resident of VOC Nagar, was murdered. Based on the report, police questioned Thanigaivel’s wife Rekha, 39, apart from her son and daughter. During questioning, her children informed police that their mother strangled their father. Rekha initially denied the charges, but she confessed to having killed her husband later. Police said Thanigaivel, a habitual drinker, returned home on Wednesday night and fought with his wife. In the ensuing melee, he was killed. After killing him, Rekha tied a noose around his neck to make it look like suicide, police said.
