CHENNAI: DMK president M K Stalin and PMK founder S Ramadoss on Wednesday condemned the nomination of Jawaharlal Nehru University vice-chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar as head of the Madras University vice-chancellor search panel.
Jagadesh Kumar was nominated by Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit to the search panel.
In a statement on Thursday, DMK president M K Stalin said, “JNU vice-chancellor Jagadesh Kumar was indifferent after the attack on the students. Nominating him to the V-C search panel would set a wrong precedent.”
He urged the governor to nominate an eminent educationist from Tamil Nadu to the panel.
PMK founder Ramadoss also urged the governor to drop the move and nominate an educationist from Tamil Nadu to the panel.
P Maruthamuthu, former vice-chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University, and P Ramasamy, former vice-chancellor of Alagappa University, have been nominated as senate and syndicate nominees in the panel. Present vice-chancellor P Duraisamy’s tenure is ending in May.
