Covid-19: Madras high court says no to protests, mass gatherings – Times of India

CHENNAI: The Madras high court on Friday made it clear that no protests and mass gatherings, including anti-CAA agitations, can be permitted across Tamil Nadu till Covid-19 outbreak is contained.
A division bench of Justice M M Sundresh and Justice Krishnan Ramaswamy passed the interim order while hearing a batch of pleas seeking to stall such protests in the state.

The court then adjourned the hearing of the pleas to avoid crowding of advocates in the court hall in view of restrictions imposed to contain the virus spread.
In addition to the pending pleas, advocate P C Saranya moved a fresh plea seeking action against Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TNTJ) for organising a ‘fill the jails’ protest near the high court campus against the advice of the government to avoid mass gatherings in view of Covid-19 outbreak.
