Chennai: With the rising number of coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu, the authorities have come up with a plan and hope to put around 10,000 families under a 14-day quarantine every day.

According to a media report, the idea behind it is that by the end of two weeks, 1.5 lakh houses would have completed quarantine and a majority of Chennai residents would have completed the isolation period by the end of the sixth cycle of the activity.

‘New policy could result in flattening of COVID-19 curve’

The commissioner feels that this activity could prove a lot in helping to flatten the COVID-19 curve in the city. During a press conference that was held recently, it was decided that everyone, irrespective of the results of their COVID-19 tests would go under mandatory quarantine.

The government’s revised plan also suggests that from now, a street in Chennai would be identified as a containment zone when members of five households test positive in the area. The authorities have also said that the earlier containment plan was not working out and that is why a new system has been devised.

Chennai to have 5000 volunteers to oversee quarantine measures

Media reports suggest that Chennai will soon have 5000 volunteers to oversee the quarantine measures. It was further said that the mandatory quarantine of asymptomatic people would only result in private labs not having to do needless tests.

However, on the flip side, the doctors feel that the plan could result in panic and that people from the essential services cannot be under home quarantine no matter what and therefore will have to be tested for the virus.

Meanwhile, a few days ago, some people in Chennai were also booked for breaching the home quarantine norms. The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) on Friday had confirmed that FIRs had been lodged after it lodged police complaints against 40 coronavirus patients for breaching home quarantine norms and moving out.
