Chennai lockdown: Latest updates about inter-state travel rules in Tamil Nadu’s capital& 

Tamil Nadu, the state with the second highest number of COVID cases in India, has been struggling to get a handle on the rising number. As a result, the local government has decided to put the state’s capital Chennai and some other regions, such as Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu, under complete lockdown. The new lockdown for Chennai and the aforementioned districts will start from 19 June and stay in place till the end of the month, i.e. 30 June. And from what we have learned so far, this lockdown will be strict and no relaxations will be allowed even on the two Sundays during the aforementioned period.

1. The use of taxis, autos, and personal transport vehicles will not be allowed unless it is for an emergency.

2. To buy essentials, citizens in the areas under lockdown will have to buy these items from shops within a 2 km radius from their residence.

3. Fuel stations will be allowed to operate between 6 am and 4 pm during the new lockdown in Chennai.

4. If you need to travel out of Chennai, you will need to apply for a travel e pass. But remember, it will be issued only for emergencies and specific situations such as deaths, weddings, etc.

6. And if you are arriving in Chennai via a flight from another state in India and are asymptomatic, you need to undergo home quarantine for 14 days.
