Tamil Nadu sees highest spike in Covid-19 cases – Times of India

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu saw its highest spike in daily Covid-19 cases on Wednesday with 5,849 fresh cases, taking the tally to 1,86,492.
The state also added 522 more deaths, including 444 reconciled ones, which pushed the cumulative death toll to 3,144.
Six people who died in the last 24 hours had no comorbidities. Chennai recorded 21 deaths and its adjoining districts added 10 more.
Health secretary J Radhakrishnan said the state had increased testing in districts. On Wednesday, the number people tested were 58,475 compared to 50,055 cases on Tuesday.
While all districts recorded cases, hotspot Chennai had 1,171 cases and 16 other districts recorded cases in three digits. After Chennai, the highest number of cases was registered by Tiruvallur (430) and Ranipet (414). Districts adjoining Chennai together logged 978 cases.
As many as 74 people who came from other countries and states tested positive.
At the end of the day, 4,910 were discharged and 51,765 were still under treatment.
