Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu: Chennai’s three neighbours together surpass city in number of fresh Covid-19 – Times of India

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu on Wednesday reported 6,426 fresh Covid-19 cases and 82 deaths. This took the cumulative case tally to 2,34,114 and total deaths to 3,741.
On Wednesday, the Chennai region – the city and the three adjoining districts – reported 2,412 fresh cases and 33 deaths. The city reported 21 deaths.
While Chennai saw a slight increase to 1,117 compared to 1107 on Tuesday, the three districts together clocked 1,295 cases compared to 1,074 on Tuesday. Chengalpet reported 540 cases while Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur recorded 373 and 382 cases respectively.
The eleven northern districts, together with Chennai region, recorded 3,308 fresh cases. All districts except Tirupattur (41) recorded a three digit increase. While Ranipet recorded 182 cases, Thiruvannamalai registered 177 cases. Villupuram logged 138, Kallakurichi registered 133, Cuddalore and Vellore reported 120 and 105 cases respectively.
The toll in the northern districts was 42. The region had 31,964 active cases, including 12,735 in Chennai.
With 1,828 fresh cases, the tally in southern districts crossed 47,865 on Wednesday, which incidentally is the lowest number of cases a week. While Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Virudhunagar recorded 379, 370 and 316 respectively, Madurai recorded 225.
Kanyakumari and Theni registered 202 and 131 fresh cases, respectively. The ten districts added 31 deaths taking the toll tally to 616. The southern districts now have 15,980 active cases.
The eight districts in the central region reported 646 cases. Thanjavur (188) had the highest number of cases.
The districts in the west closely followed with 635 cases. Coimbatore reported 289 cases.
The central region reported seven deaths while the west had three.
