Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu: Fresh Covid-19 cases fall slightly in Chennai – Times of India

CHENNAI: As many as 97 patients died and 5,881 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu on Friday. The case tally reached 2,45,859 while there are 57,968 active cases. The death toll reached 3,935.
The number of people cured from the viral infection is 1,83,956 after 5,778 patients were discharged from hospitals.
Hotspot Chennai recorded 1,013 cases and 21 deaths. (On Thursday, it reported 1,175 fresh cases.)
The three adjoining districts – Chengalpet (334 ), Kancheepuram (485) and Tiruvallur (373) –together added 1,192 cases taking the total number of fresh cases in the region to 2,205. The total number of deaths in the region is 34.
The remaining seven districts in the north added 995 more cases and 17 deaths, taking the tally for the eleven northern districts to 3,200 and deaths to 53.
Other districts that recorded high number of cases were Ranipet (359), Virudhunagar (357), Tirunelveli (222), Tuticorin (284), Theni (299), Coimbatore (169), Cuddalore (158), Kanyakumari (169), Madurai (173), Pudukkottai (112), Salem (123), Trichy (133), Vellore (194) and Villupuram 169.
Eight people who died had no comorbidities. Among people with comorbidities, diabetes and hypertension were the most common contributors.
