School admissions to begin on August 17: Tamil Nadu education minister – Times of India

Chennai News

CHENNAI: All schools in Tamil Nadu will begin admissions for Classes I to X on August 17, school education minister KA Sengottaiyan said on Tuesday. He added that transfers would also begin the same day.
“Schools have to follow social distancing norms announced by the government while conducting admissions. Free books and notebooks also should be distributed after the admissions,” he told reporters, adding that Class XI admissions will begin on August 24.
After the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Government Examinations declared the Class X results on Monday, many government and government-aided schools wanted to start admissions immediately as they feared that students may switch to private schools if the process is delayed.
Headmasters of city schools say inquiries for commerce stream is at a high following the 100% result in Class X. “Surprisingly, many students also inquire about admissions to science stream in Class XI. Due to all-pass in Class X, it would be tough to allot streams as many students want to join either commerce or science stream,” said G J Manohar, principal of MCC Higher Secondary School in Chetpet.
The admissions to the 25% seats under Right to Education Act will be done online. The directorate of matriculation schools is likely to issue a separate announcement on RTE admissions. Around 80,000 students have been admitted to LKG in private schools under this quota.
