Auto driver sexually abuses, robs man in Chennai, held – Times of India

CHENNAI: Police arrested an autorickshaw driver for sexually assaulting a 53-year-old passenger and robbing him of his phone and Rs 500.
Police said on September 1, the victim was waiting near Anna Arch around 10.30pm when ‘Karadi’ alias Charles, of Aminjikarai, offered him a ride to Arumbakkam for Rs 50. However, Charles drove towards Broadway on Poonamallee High Road. He then stopped the vehicle and tried to sexually assault the man.
When he resisted, the accused snatched his phone and made him withdraw Rs 500 from an ATM. Based on his complaint, a case was registered at Arumbakkam police station.
On September 3, when a person called from the snatched mobile police traced his whereabouts. He works at a four-wheeler service firm. Police posed as a customer and asked him to arrive at a spot to take a car for service. When he arrived they nabbed him. Based on his inputs, police arrested Charles from Maduravoyal. The autorickshaw was seized and Charles will be remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday.
