Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu: Fresh Covid-19 cases fall further in Chennai, Coimbatore – Times of India

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu reported 5,519 fresh Covid-19 cases and 77 deaths on Friday. The cumulative death toll touched 8,231. The state has 47,918 patients still under treatment.
Chennai reported 987 (991 on Thursday) cases and 21 deaths. Its neighbouring districts, Tiruvallur (312), Chengalpet (297) and Kancheepuram (132), together reported 741 cases and a dozen deaths. The other seven northern districts reported 1,251 cases and 13 deaths.
The western districts reported the highest cases and deaths after the northern district. Together the eight western districts logged 1,225 cases and 15 deaths. Coimbatore reported 394 cases on Friday (440 on Thursday). With six deaths, Salem reported the highest number of Covid-19 victims in the zone.
Cases in ten southern districts almost equalled those in the central zone. The ten southern districts together recorded 659 cases and 9 deaths. The central districts added 654 cases.
The state tested 82,891 people in the last 24 hours, and 6,006 patients were discharged from various hospitals.
