CHENNAI: After an overcast Saturday, IMD has forecast light rain on Sunday with a low pressure area likely to form over the Bay of Bengal.
Chennai has a 23% deficit so far this season starting June 1 as it recorded 279.4mm against the average of 361.1mm. The regional meteorological centre, Chennai has forecast, “The sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy. Light rain is likely to occur in some areas,” in the city for the next 48 hours. IMD has forecast rainfall over north coastal Tamil Nadu till September 16 in its five-day forecast.
In its regional weather inference, the nodal weather agency said, “A cyclonic circulation lies over west-central Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast and extends up to 3.1km above mean sea level. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over west central Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast by tomorrow (Sunday).”
Experts said while monsoon is active on the west coast, the low pressure area developing over the Bay of Bengal can bring favourable wind patterns and convergence that may result in rainfall in the city.
