Chennai: Burglar falls asleep on terrace after theft, held – Times of India

CHENNAI: A man who broke into a house and stole valuables was arrested after he dozed off at the terrace of the house in Maduravoyal.
Police said Prabhakaran, a resident of Adayalampattu near Maduravoyal and an employee at a private company, found a man sleeping on his terrace on Wednesday morning when he went there for doing exercise.
He found a bag lying next to the man. Prabhakaran opened it and found valuables from his house.
Prabhakaran silently climbed down from the terrace without disturbing him and informed the city police control room about the man.
A police team from the Maduravoyal station arrived at the house and nabbed the man. Inquiries identified the man as Muthalagan from Kolathur, employed at a food delivery agency in the city.
Police said that Muthalagan had debts to pay. He decided to steal money or valuables to pay off his debts.
While delivering food, he marked some of the houses where the occupants are few.
He spotted Prabhakaran’s house and sneaked inside through the terrace late on Tuesday night. He stole the valuables from the safe but dozed off when he went to the terrace keeping the bag with the booty beside him. The Maduravoyal police registered a case. A court in the city remanded him in judicial custody.
