CHENNAI: A 30-year-old woman and her 5-year-old son were found dead at their house in Aadhanur near Guduvancherry.
The incident came to light after neighbours spotted smoke coming out of the house which was locked from inside. They broke the main door and saw the woman and her son were lying unconscious. The mattress the duo was sleeping on was half burnt.
Police said the fire may have been caused due to an electrical short-circuit and spark fell on the mattress. They have registered a case for suspicious death and further investigation is on.
Police identified the deceased woman as Nisha Angel and her son as Daniel. They said Nisha got married seven years ago and was separated from her husband within six months. She would stay at her own house. Police sent the bodies to Chromepet Government Hospital.
Police have registered a case and investigating whether Nisha was depressed since she was living alone for nearly six years and committed suicide along with her son. Police also do not rule out the involvement of someone else.
