Covid-19 in Chennai: Number of containment zones goes up – Times of India

CHENNAI: The number of containment zones in Chennai has increased to 36, data released on Monday by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) showed.
A containment zone is a street which is completely barricaded end to end preventing thoroughfare movement as the number of Covid-19 cases in the area is on the higher side.
A month after lockdown restrictions were removed, containment zones were established again in Chennai a few days ago. The number of containment zones was 10 till Sunday.
Ambattur zone has the highest number of containment areas (16) while Alandur and Adyar have four each. TVK Nagar has three while Teynampet has two, Anna Nagar has one, Kodambakkam has three, Valasaravakkam has one, and Shollinganallur has two.
The increase in containment zones shows that the number of Covid-19 cases in the city is going up and the spread is lso concentrated in a few clusters.
