Covid-19 cases continue to drop in Tamil Nadu – Times of India

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu continued to see a drop in fresh Covid-19 cases. The state on Friday reported 4,389 fresh Covid-19 cases and 57 deaths. The cumulative death toll touched 10,529, and the case tally stood at 6,79,191.
There are 40,959 patients under treatment for the viral infection.
In the last 24 hours, the state tested more than 89,497 people using RT PCR kits.
Early initiation of therapy has prevented complications and deaths even among senior citizens and people with comorbidities, said health minister C Vijaya Baskar. The state has a recovery rate that is nearly 92% and a case fatality rate that is close to 1.5%.
Chennai reported 1,140 fresh cases while its neighbouring districts, Chengalpet (261), Tiruvallur (195), and Kancheepuram (130) together reported 586 cases. The Chennai region had 21 deaths, including 15 in Chennai. The region had 17,457 active cases with 13,289 of them in the city.
The other seven northern districts reported 549 cases and nine deaths.
The eight western districts logged 1,272 cases and 16 deaths. Coimbatore (387) had the second highest number of fresh cases after Chennai.
The 10 southern districts recorded 428 cases compared to 414 in the central zone. The central zone reported seven deaths while south registered four.
