Tamil Nadu: Twitter account of BJP’s Gayathri Raghuram suspended – Times of India

CHENNAI: Twitter has suspended the account of BJP Tamil Nadu unit art and cultural wing president Gayathri Raghuram on Sunday for violating rules. On Monday afternoon, the party IT wing retrieved it. Minute after the account was restored, she tweeted “…I will always come back stronger”
She posted a series of tweets relating to the controversy over VCK leader Thol Thirumavalan’s statement on Manusmriti. Gayathri’s account (@gayathriraguram) had 3.69 lakh followers, including several senior BJP leaders.
“The account was suspended during the early hours of Sunday on the basis of copyright. Along with the Gayatri account, VCK and DMK have also reported suspending my account. Since my account was authorised and verified, I got a notification. Following that I responded and appealed against the false report. Since Gayathri account was not a verified account. Hence, it was taken down,” party’s state IT cell president C T R Nirmal Kumar told TOI.
He alleged that some people with vested interests have engaged “bots” to report the account to Twitter, resulting in the suspension of the account. “We have worked with the Twitter India team and made an appeal and restored the account within 30 hours,” he said.
The account was restored at about 3.51 pm on Monday. Gayatri’s first message, targeting election strategists and tweeted “Prashant Kishore tactics (with thumbs down emoji),… with support o DMK IT wing you tried to lock me suspended me, but I will always come back stronger,” and tagged VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan.
This was not the first time. Gayathri’s account was suspended last year after she reportedly posted threads and video messages in violation of Twitter Rules. According to the rules, if an account engages in “abusive behaviour” such as sending threats and the same were reported, the account would be suspended temporarily and some time permanently.
