CHENNAI: Following the directions from the Madras high court, the University of Madras has decided to conduct exams for arrear students who have been promoted with minimum marks.
After hearing petitions challenging the government’s order cancelling arrears’ exams, the Madras high court restrained universities from declaring all pass without conducting the tests.
“It has been proposed to conduct the online examinations as supplementary/improvement exams for the arrear candidates for whom the results have been declared along with the semester examinations scheduled to begin from December 21,” said a circular from the controller of examinations to principals of all colleges.
The university also gave three more opportunities to the students who have not completed their degrees in stipulated time in view of pandemic.
The Syndicate of University of Madras on October 17 decided to award minimum pass marks for candidates who have arrears based on government order. “Students having arrears who have registered for exam will be given minimum pass by moderation in internal as well external examinations, wherever necessary the sum total of internal and external, however, should not exceed the overall passing minimum,” the resolution passed in the Syndicate said.
