CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government has permitted outdoor political and religious gatherings with a rider from December 19.
In a statement on Wednesday, chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said that following standard procedures, social, political, sports, educational, cultural and entertainment gathering of a maximum capacity of 50% capacity would be permitted in open spaces from December 19. “Further permission is required from the Greater Chennai Police commissioner and district collectors, in respect of other districts,” the CM said.
The state government has already permitted social, political, entertainment and religious gatherings with a maximum of 50% capacity of the hall capacity or with a ceiling of 200 persons in closed spaces from December 1 to 31.
Palaniswami said the government had been proactively working to protect people from coronavirus and extend relief. The transmission had been brought under control due to the best efforts of the government and support of the people, he said.
“People should wear masks in public places compulsorily. Transmission shall be brought under control fully if only people wash hands frequently in residence and workplace, maintain physical distance without fail and avoid stepping out unnecessarily,” the CM said.
