Dogs poisoned to death in Chennai – Times of India

Chennai News

CHENNAI: Instances of cruelty towards animals are being reported on a regular basis from across Chennai. But often it becomes difficult to apprehend the suspects.
On January 12, more than 10 dogs were poisoned to death on the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) campus in Chromepet.
“I am part of an animal lover’s group on WhatsApp and got a message saying that 10-13 dogs had been poisoned on the campus,” said S Kailash, 31, a resident of Tambaram, who has been feeding community dogs for the last five years. The businessman contacted Natarajan Jeyaraj, who had put out the message.
“I live in the area. When I came out at 4am, I found two puppies dead near my house. Another two dogs died after a few hours, and then a few more died. I tried calling animal welfare organisations for help,” said Jeyaraj, who then went to the Chromepet S 13 police station with Kailash. “Since all of the dogs were foaming at the mouth and bleeding from the anus, I felt they were poisoned,” he said.
“The police came and inspected the carcasses. A CSR was filed. But since there are no CCTV cameras in the area, we do not know who poisoned the animals,” said Kailash.
Sub-inspector Jothi Prakash of Chromepet S 13 police station said that they were inquiring. “Since there are about 50-60 families living there, we do not know who did it. But we will be looking into the matter,” he said.
