Chennai: A 20-year-old youth in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai posed as a woman on Instagram, a popular social media platform, in order to recover his mobile phone which was stolen by one of his friends last month.

As per reports, Saravanan, a resident of Anna Nagar East, approached the Puzhal police with a complaint that a group, comprising five persons, abducted him and snatched his mobile phone and motorcycle at Puzhal lake in the city. Subsequently, police initiated inquiries leading to the identification of the group members – Lokesh (20), Praveen (24), Prathap (23), Vinod Kumar (19) and a juvenile (name withheld).

Case takes unexpected twist

The case took an unexpected turn as police interrogations revealed that that the mobile phone actually belonged to Lokesh. Saravanan had stolen it from him on January 18. Lokesh, after this, lodged a complaint with the Ambathur police, but no action was taken. Following this, he decided to recover the phone himself, according to a report by The Times of India.

Lokesh teamed up with his friends – Praveen, Prathap, Vinod Kumar and the minor to get his phone back. He created a fake profile in a woman’s name on Instagram. Thereafter, he befriended Saravanan through the fake Instagram account and asked him to meet at Puzhal lake last week. When Saravanan arrived at the lake, Lokesh and his friends, all covering their faces with masks, thrashed him and snatched the mobile phone and the motorcycle, police said.

Another incident
