Tamil Nadu: Mutilated corpse of newborn found in abandoned building – Times of India

Chennai News

CHENNAI: The torso of a newborn child, bearing injuries, was recovered from a dilapidated building at Thirukazhukundram in Chengalpet on Sunday. With the portion below the hip missing, the child’s sex could be confirmed, said police.
A few shepherds spotted animals preying on ‘some food’ amid bushes behind the building that once functioned as Tamil Nadu Hotel and went there. They found blood all over the place and informed the Thirukazhukundram police. Soon, a team rushed to the spot and sent the torso to the Government Hospital at Chengalpet for autopsy.
While police suspect the child may have born out of wedlock, doctors who examined the torso said the child could not be more than two days old. The place where the torso was found was not used by anyone and is ideal for dumping anything unwanted, a police officer said.
The abandoned building of the erstwhile Tamil Nadu Hotel is located on a hillside where several villagers had reported seeing jackals and stray dogs in the past, the officer said. Some animal may have killed the abandoned child and eaten the lower portion, he added.
Police have collected the details of those delivered children at the maternity centres and primary health centres near the Chengalpet government hospital. They are also checking to see if any woman had delivered a child at the hospital in the past two days and escaped without following proper discharge formalities.
