Chennai region reports 1,447 new Covid cases – Times of India

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu added 2,579 new Covid-19 cases and 19 deaths to the state registry, which pushed the cumulative death toll to 12,719 when case tally touched 8,86673.
There were 15,879 active cases after the state discharged 1,527 people.

Meanwhile, the revenue and disaster management department extended the lockdown till April 30 and district collectors were instructed to enforce social distancing norms very strictly and book violators under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act. International trips, barring those permitted by the MHA, will remain prohibited. TN will tract, test and treat cases, and take legal action against those violating Covid 19 protocols, the order said.
On Wednesday, Chennai reported 969 new cases followed by 273 in Coimbatore. Chengalpet had 250 new cases, while Tiruvallur reported 130 and Kancheepuram had two cases short of 100. The Chennai region together reported 1,447 new cases. Thanjavur district reported 106 new cases. While all districts reported new cases, eight districts registered fresh cases in single digits.
Of the eleven districts that reported deaths on Wednesday, Chennai reported seven deaths, Chengalpet had three, Nagapattinam reported two and seven others – Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Dindugul, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Tiruvallur and Trichy – reported one death each.
