Tamil Nadu: With 3,446 new COVID-19 cases, active cases touch 20,000 for first time since Nov 1 – Times Now

Chennai: Tamil Nadu recorded whopping 3,446 new cases on Saturday. With this, the active cases touched 20,204 on Saturday. The state had last touched more than 20,000 active cases on November 1, as 20,994 people were under treatment.

The total case tally in the state now stands at 8.96 lakh and 14 people succumbed to the deadly contagious virus.

The rise in COVID infections also led to rise in clusters. The active cases saw a dip on March 7 where 3,997 cases were reported, however, the resurgence of coronavirus infections led to an increase in active cases.

The active cases, as reported on March 15 was 5,149 and it doubled in the next ten days to 10,487. On March 31, at least 15,847 patients in Tamil Nadu were under treatment. 

COVID cases in Chennai

1,290 new cases were reported from Chennai on Saturday and eight people died due to the infections. Chengalpet saw 285 new cases and 201 and 141 cases were reported from Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram respective;y. With this, the total infection in the region rose to 1,917.

At least two deaths were reported from Chengalpet and one death was reported from Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram.

Chennai tops the list of most cases in Tamil Nadu followed by Coimbatore which reported 292 cases. Thanjavur and Trichy saw 138 and 142 new cases.

According to the report in the Times of India, health secretary J Radhakrishnan said that all essential arrangements have been made as isolation beds capacity have been increased, essential and life-saving drugs, oxygen, ventilators, and PPEs have been stocked up in the state.
