Chennai: Amid a massive upsurge in COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai in the last 24 hours, Chennai Corporation is set to start functioning of control rooms in all 15 containment zones and the contact tracing team at Ripon Buildings next week. According to the civic body officials, it will help in reducing the COVID-19 transmission rate and will also help in early detection in tracing contact of coronavirus-positive patients.    

During the first wave of the coronavirus, over 200 people were involved in contact tracing when the pandemic was at its peak. In order to further curb the spread, the team also counselled patients in isolation and helped them with their needs. Earlier, this year in January month as the number of COVID cases dropped in the city, the numbers were slowly reduced to 10. 

According to a civic body official, “We are bringing them all back in the coming weeks. It will be like a war room in the city,” was saying as quoted by the Times of India. He also added that control rooms have already begun to get people who will call up positive patients and try to find the sources of infection.

According to another Chennai Corporation official, all technological tools will be again used by the focus volunteers to keep track of tracing positive patients.    

Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu

As India is witnessing a sharp in the number of COVID-19 cases with over 2 lakh cases in the last 24 hours, one of the key contributors to the same has been Tamil Nadu. The southern state has recorded 7,819 Covid cases. 

Cumulative coronavirus vaccination in Tamil Nadu   

According to the official data of the Union Health Ministry, a total of 41,10,452 people were vaccinated in the southern state against the deadly contagious virus. As per the latest report, 36,41,255 people got the first dose while 4,69,197 beneficiaries got the second jab.
