Vote counting: Madras high court suggests complete lockdown in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on two days – Times of India

Chennai News

CHENNAI: The Madras high court on Monday suggested that the Tamil Nadu and the Puducherry governments consider imposing lockdown on May 1 and 2 and only allow movement of vehicles needed for the purpose of counting of votes and emergency services.
“If an appropriate announcement is made well in advance, say by April 28, the ordinary citizens may have sufficient notice and may complete the weekend purchase by Friday and abide by the restrictive movement norms as was evident in course of the lockdown observed on Sunday (April 25),” the first bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy said.
The bench made the observations while hearing a suo motu plea initiated by the court to check the preparedness of the state and the availability of Remdesivir, oxygen, ventilators and beds required to handle the second wave of Covid-19.
