Chennai, Hyderabad Coronavirus News Highlights: Telangana government has decided to impose a 10-day lockdown across the state, starting Wednesday morning. The state cabinet, which convened Tuesday afternoon discussed the ongoing COVID-19pandemic situation in the state, also resolved to call for global tenders to procure COVID-19 vaccines.

The lockdown will be in full force from 10 am to 6 am whereas, daily relaxations are allowed for four hours in the morning, between 6 am and 10 am. The detailed guidelines for enforcement of lockdown are expected to be released later today.

Tamil Nadu’s opposition AIADMK on Monday unanimously elected former chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami as the legislative party leader, seemingly putting an end to reported internal friction with the faction supporting O Panneerselvam, the state’s former deputy chief minister.

Following the three-hour meeting, a senior AIADMK leader said there were no heated arguments over the post of Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly.

Tamil Nadu Minister for Medical and Family Welfare Ma Subramanian inaugurated a Siddha Covid Care Centre equipped with 240 beds at Ambedkar Arts and Science College in Tondiarpet, Chennai on Sunday.

Subramanian said the state government would set up 12 Siddha Covid-19 Care Centres (SCCCs) in the state to treat patients with mild symptoms. He said that currently 195 patients were under treatment at the facility and the decision to reinstitute Siddha centres has been taken by the state government to reduce the crowd at other hospitals.

Harish Varman, a Class II student hailing from Arappalayam town in Madurai, was overjoyed to see a brand new bicycle in front of his house on Sunday. He was dreaming of this for a very long time and had saved whatever amount he got to buy a bicycle.

However, after witnessing the surge of the Covid-19, Harish decided to give up his dream for the welfare of society. Harish, through his father Elangovan, sent Rs 1000 he saved to the Chief Minister’s relief fund with a handwritten note asking Chief Minister M K Stalin to help the people.

The Andhra Pradesh government has requested the Eastern Naval Command to operate and maintain oxygen plants in all government and teaching hospitals across the state, it is learnt.

A meeting on supply, storage and maintenance of oxygen plans in the state was held on Saturday between state government’s representative M T Krishna Babu with Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) of ENC Vice-Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, and officials of Vizag Steel Plant.
