Chennai: COVID cases decline in all zones barring one in last one week – Times Now

Chennai: According to the data released by Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), all zones in Chennai apart from Royapuram are witnessing a decline in fresh COVID-19 infections since last one week.

Comparing the 13 zones in the city weekly, the number of fresh infections was less than in the previous week. Royapuram saw a minor increase at 0.7 percent. Also, Thiru-vi-ka Nagar witnessed a zero per cent growth rate.

Chennai saw a dip in cases

The average of Tamil Nadu’s capital Chennai is -5.5 per cent. Perungudi (zone 14) recorded the lowest growth rate
at 10.6%. Also, out of 15 zones in the city, eight of them have lower growth than Chennai’s average.

Chennai also witnessed a steady fall in COVID cases in the last seven days. The active cases have also declined from 38,680 to 24,290. 

At present, Kodambakkam has the highest number of COVID cases (2,320) followed by Anna Nagar which has 2,258 cases and Valasaravakkam has 2,154 cases.

Two zones Adyar and Teynampet have more than 2,000 active cases- 2,093 and 2,076 respectively.

Anna Nagar recorded the highest number of fatalities

The zones which have less than 1,000 active cases are Manali and Tiruvottiyur. However, the case fatality rate (CFR) at Tiruvottiyur stands at 1.6 per cent followed by Teynampet (1.8%), Kodambakkam (1.7%), and Anna Nagar (1.6%).

The highest number of fatalities have been recorded in Anna Nagar (868), followed by Kodambakkam (862) and Teynampet (860).
