DMK candidate moves Madras high court challenging former TN health minister’s election – Times of India

CHENNAI: A DMK candidate has moved the Madras high court challenging the of former Tamil Nadu health minister C Vijayabasker from the Viralimalai assembly constituency.
The plea has been moved by DMK candidate M Palaniappan who lost the election by 23,598 votes.
Palaniappan said he was moving the plea on the ground that Vijayabasker, the AIADMK candidate, had indulged in corrupt practices of bribing the voters with gifts and payment of illegal gratification to garner votes.
It had incurred excess expenditure amounting to corrupt practice, taking the assistance of government servants and tampering with control units in the strong rooms with the help of returning officer, he added.
Therefore, the petitioner has sought for declaring the election of Vijayabasker as void and for a consequential declaration that the petitioner is the duly elected candidate in the constituency.
