Chennai: Gang kills youth who objected to noisy party, 4 held – Times of India

CHENNAI: An engineering student enjoying a drinking session with his friends in a hotel room was murdered in a clash that broke out with another gang of youths who stayed in the hotel in Arumbakkam on Thursday night.
Police identified the victim as Badhrish, 20, of Royapettah. Police said Badhrish and his friends Dinesh, 21, and Vignesh, 21, decided to have an outing and booked a room at a three-star hotel in Arumbakkam for a drinking session on Thursday. The trio were in room 301.
Moses, of Choolaimedu, had booked the adjacent room 302 to celebrate the birthday of his friend Esaki with their friends. They were a group of six.
An investigating officer, quoting the victim’s friend, said, “Moses and his friends were dancing and singing loudly. Badhrish and his friends found it too noisy and disturbing and requested the gang next door to keep the sound under control. But Moses and his friends took offense and picked a fight.”
The argument between the two groups escalated into fisticuffs and the hotel management asked both parties to leave the premises. But they started to fight outside on the road, police said.
“Moses called some of his friends to join him and a gang of five men came on motorbikes and attacked Badhrish, Vignesh and Dinesh with huge stones. Dinesh managed to get out of it safely, but Badhrish suffered multiple injuries and Vignesh a fracture on the hip,” the officer said. A few passersby alerted the police control room. A team from the Arumbakkam police station reached the spot. Badhrish was taken to a privtae hospital nearby where doctors declared him brought dead. The body was sent to Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospita for postmortem. Vignesh is undergoing treatment for the fracture.
Based on a complaint from Dinesh, police arrested Ajith Kumar, 20, of Nesapakkam; Balaji, 25, of Virugambakkam; Vignesh, 21, of Ramapuram; Venkatesan, 25, of Mahalakshmi Nagar for murder. A search is on for a few others.
