CHENNAI: The University of Madras on Saturday invited applications under free education scheme from poor students to pursue undergraduate degree courses in its affiliated colleges in the 2021-22 academic year.
As per the scheme, the affiliated colleges — both aided and self-financing colleges — will offer free education to two students each. Students are enrolled under this scheme from 2010-11.
“Preference will be given to economically backward students, orphans, children of widows and also to the first graduates of the family. The annual income of the family seeking admission under the free education scheme should not exceed Rs 3 lakh,” a release from university registrar N Mathivanan said.
The online applications form and details of the scheme will be available on the university’s website www.unom.ac.in from June 28. The last date for uploading an application with all necessary documents on the website is 15 days from the publication of Class XII results.
The university said it would accept only online applications this year in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
