Showers could drench Chennai for one last time on Friday before dry spell, says Met – Times of India

Chennai News

CHENNAI: It may rain for one last time on Friday before a dry spell for several days sets in due to a low pressure that will form near Odisha, says weather forecast. Most parts of the city received rain on Thursday evening and night, the spell being heavy in some areas with lightning.
Iyyappanthangal, Virugambakkam, Kodungaiyur, Nanganallur, Nungambakkam, Mambalam received heavy rain. Nungambakkam received 20mm rain and Meenambakkam received 1mm rain.
IMD forecast for Friday says, “The sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy. Thunderstorms with light rain are likely to occur in some areas.”
The city has chances of rain only for one more day before the monsoon season becomes active yet again in other parts of the country. A low pressure is likely to form near Odisha on July 11, bringing monsoon showers to Delhi and up north. However, this means chances of rain will reduce over Chennai in the coming days.
Private weather bloggers said northwest wind was converging and the city and its suburbs have a good chance for rain on Friday.
Chennai has registered 60mm rain in Nungambakkam and 99mm in Meenambakkam since June 1, which is 32mm and 0.59mm below normal.
