Spike in new Covid cases in Chennai for 2nd day – Times of India

CHENNAI: While fresh cases of Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu dropped to 1,756 on Wednesday, at least 15 districts including Chennai, reported a spike in new cases.
The total number of deaths reported in the state was stable at 29.

New cases in Chennai, went up for the second day with the city registering 164 new cases. On Tuesday, the city reported 139 cases. Chennai reported the second highest number of new cases after Coimbatore (179). Cases in Coimbatore also saw an increase from 169 on Tuesday.
Besides Chennai and Coimbatore, Erode also recorded a marginal spike from 127 cases on Monday to 140 on Wednesday. While Ramanathapuram has reported a decline from nine cases on Tuesday to seven on Wednesday, Perambalur reported an increase from six cases on Tuesday to seven on Wednesday.
After discharging 2,394 people from the Covid registry, TN had 21,521 active cases. Barring Coimbatore, Chennai, Erode, and Chengalpet
(117), all other districts in the state reported fewer than 100 cases on Wednesday. There were 1,917 active cases in Coimbatore, followed by 1,474 in Chennai.
Of the 29 deaths, Salem reported five, followed by four in Coimbatore. While Chennai and Cuddalore reported three deaths each, Erore and Trichy reported two each. Ten districts reported one death each and 22 had zero deaths.
Meanwhile, 2.3 lakh people received their shots on Wednesday.
