Tamil Nadu reports 1,957 new cases, 28 deaths – Times of India

CHENNAI: Fresh cases dipped after four days of hike on Monday, when Tamil Nadu reported1,957 cases compared to 1,990 on Sunday, and 1,986 on Saturday.
Yet at least 14 districts, including Chennai, reported an increase in new cases compared to Sunday. At the end of the day there were 20,385 people still under treatment for the viral infection.
The cumulative case tally touched 25.63 lakh and the death toll reached 34,130 including 28 deaths the registry counted on Monday.
While cases in Chennai increased to189 compared to 175 on Sunday, Coimbatore continued to lead the charts with 219 cases. The western district reported 230 cases on Sunday.
Barring Coimbatore all other districts reported fewer than 200 cases. Erode (168). Chengalpet (127), Thanjavur (123) reported more than100 cases and three districts – Tenkasi (9), Ramanathapuram (8) and Perambalur (7) – reported cases in single digits. Cases in Tuticorin, Thirupathur and Trichy went up to 23, 24 and 75 from14,18 and 69.
Samples were drawn from 1.4lakh people on Monday when 2,068 were discharged from the registry.
While active cases decreased in the state, it increased in Coimbatore to 2008 from 1,961 on Sunday. Active cases also increased in Chennai to 1,735 on Monday from 1,675 on Sunday, and in Erode to 1,568 from 1,523 during the same time period.
On Monday, 3.2 lakh people took vaccines taking the dosage tally in the government sector to 2.18 crore. Since May 1, private hospitals have offered 15.80 lakh doses.
