Tamil Nadu Chennai News Live Updates: Tamil Nadu recorded 1949 positive cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, bringing the state tally to 25,67,401. Among these, Chennai reported 189 positive cases, bringing the city’s total to 5,38,908. The state recorded 38 deaths on Wednesday, putting the state toll at 34,197. 32 of them had succumbed due to comorbidities. A total of 2011 patients were discharged following treatment, taking the total number of recoveries to 25,13,087.

As of Wednesday, the number of active Covid-19 cases in Tamil Nadu is 20,117. Till date, 14,99,777 males, 10,67,586 females and 38 transgenders have tested positive for the virus in the state.

According to a bulletin released by the Health and Family Welfare Department of Tamil Nadu, 3,80,52,335 samples from the state have been tested till date, with 1,56,635 samples having been sent yesterday. There are 282 Covid-19 testing facilities in the state, out of which 69 are government and 213 are private facilities.

A day after the Madras High Court struck down a recent amendment made to the Tamil Nadu Gaming Act, passed in 1930, which imposed a ban on online games with stakes like rummy and poker, the Tamil Nadu Law Minister S Ragupathy said a new legislation will be passed to ban the games in the state.

In a step towards inclusivity, the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) in Chennai’s Kilpauk has for the first time employed members from the transgender community. While Manisha (28) has been offered the job of a telephone operator at the institute, Vaishnavi (26) has been employed as a housekeeping worker.
