CHENNAI: A 43-year-old man, employed as a deputy manager at the Tamil Nadu Minerals Limited, died after inhaling noxious gas that emanated from a faulty air-conditioner in a lodge room at Triplicane in Chennai in the early hours on Thursday. Six other inmates were rescued from nearby rooms in the lodge and admitted to Government General Hospital.
The deceased has been identified as Aravindan. Police said Aravindan came to Chennai on an official visit and stayed at the Peace Park Inn at Triplicane.
Lodge employees noticed a smoke emanating from one of the rooms. They knocked on the door. As there was no response, the lodge authorities informed fire and rescue services personnel and the Triplicane police. Firemen broke open the door and rescued the inmates.
Some of the inmates staying in the nearby rooms also fainted after inhaling the noxious gas. Fire personnel rescued seven people and rushed them to GH where Aravindan was declared “dead on arrival.”
