SR’s Chennai division adds new goods shed – News Today

Chennai: Chennai division of Southern Railway said it has loaded its first rake with 1092 tonnes of paddy in 21 BCN wagons to Samalkot from ‘Doravarichattram’, a new goods shed, generating revenue of Rs 7.1 lakh.

According to an official release, Chennai division operates 18 goods sheds to transport essential commodities, petroleum products and automobiles from Chennai to other parts of the country.

Hitherto, Korukkupet was the only goods facility of Chennai division in Chennai Central – Gudur Section.

There were persistent demands from agro sector for transportation of paddy consignment from Gudur end of Chennai Division to interior districts of Andhra Pradesh in Nellore belt.

As part of Mission #HungryForCargo, Chennai division made use of an unused ballast siding at Doravarichattram station, to load 21 BCN wagons of paddy (1092 tonnes) of the Andhra Pradesh Growers Association, within one week after it was approved as a goods shed.
