Tamil Nadu Chennai News Live Updates: Tamil Nadu recorded 1,509 positive cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, bringing the state tally to 26,16,381. Among these, Chennai reported 177 positive cases, bringing the city’s total to 5,44,323. The state recorded 20 deaths on Wednesday, putting the state toll at 34,941. A total of 1,719 patients were discharged following treatment, taking the total number of recoveries to 25,64,820.
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) on Wednesday said that a total of 44,76,111 passengers have travelled via metro in Chennai ever since it resumed operations on June 21 this year. 44,76,111 passengers availed metro services from June 21 to August 31 while 3,55,579 passengers travelled from June 21 to June 30 and a total of 18,46,466 passengers travelled via metro from July 1 to July 31.
Patronage for metro services saw an increase last month with 22,74,066 passengers having travelled from August 1 to August 31 alone, CMRL said.
Earlier in the day, Vijayalakshmi, the wife of AIADMK co-coordinator and deputy leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly O Panneerselvam passed away in Chennai. Vijayalakshmi (66) is said to have suffered a massive cardiac arrest at 5 am and passed away at 6.45 am today. She was undergoing treatment at Gem Hospital, a private hospital at Perungudi in Chennai for the last two weeks.
