Three school students test positive for Covid-19 in Chennai – Times of India

CHENNAI: Three schoolchildren — a Class X girl in a private school at Alwarpet, a Class X boy in a private school in Perambur and a Class XI boy in the corporation higher secondary school in Tondiapet — have tested positive for Covid 19 in Chennai in the past one week.
The city education officer confirmed this and said there were no other cases reported among students in the city thus far.
Teynampet zonal health officer E Saraswathi said the Class X girl and her parents returned from Bengaluru on August 30. “On September 2, they developed mild symptoms of cough and cold. They gave samples to a private lab for testing. On September 4, the results came positive. The parents immediately informed the headmaster of the school and the girl returned home. We collected 104 samples from the school of children and the staff. All have tested negative. We have informed them to look for symptomatic children and report immediately,” she said.
The girl and her parents were admitted to King’s Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research, Guindy. Both the parents had been vaccinated. “They are fine and have just mild symptoms,” said Sarawathi.
The second case was reported on September 8. A class X boy studying in a private school in Perambur tested positive. He twin sister tested negative.
Zonal health officer Dr Venkataramanan told TOI that the father of the boy had been vaccinated with both doses. “The father had fever on September 2 but then is symptoms subsided. But his son complained of body pain after which they tested the child and the family. The son tested positive but the mother and sister tested negative. We tested all the students and staff in the school. All have tested negative,” said Venkataramanan.
The duo were admitted to ESI Hospital in Ayanavaram. They has mild symptoms, he said.
In the third case, a Class XII boy in corporation higher secondary school in Tondiarpet tested positive on September 9. He was stable, said official. No other students tested positive from the school.
