CHENNAI: Less than a week after a college student was stabbed to death by her stalker, another woman in the city was assaulted by a man for rejecting him.
On Tuesday, a 23-year-old college student attacked a woman, allegedly because she refused to accept his proposal to resume their relationship, near her house in Abiramapuram. Police secured the accused, Logesh, and a court sent him to jail.
The 24-year-old woman had been in a relationship with Logesh when the two were studying in the same school in Abiramapuram. While Logesh was busy in college, the woman got employment with a software company after her degree.
The pandemic-induced lockdown prevented them from meeting each other and the two grew apart. After the second Covid-19 wave, Logesh repeatedly called the woman. But, she avoided his calls.
On Tuesday, he asked her to come to a park near her house, saying he wanted to return some photos of her and the gifts she gave him.
Trusting him, the woman went to the park.
Logesh tried to patch things up and sought to rekindle their relationship. But the woman refused and denied his proposal.
Furious, Logesh launched an attack with his bare hands, punching her repeatedly in full view of the public.
Some onlookers came to her rescue and one member of the public alerted the police control room.
A team from the Abiramapuram police station nabbed Logesh. The suspect has been booked for harassing and assaulting the woman and is now lodged in Puzhal prison.
