Tamil Nadu Chennai News Live Updates: Tamil Nadu Thursday recorded 1,612 new Covid-19 cases and 28 fatalities. The total caseload has reached 26,63,789, while the toll in the state is at 35,578, the health department said. Chennai, Coimbatore, Chengalpet and Erode have accounted for the most number of cases in the state.
In other news, the Tamil Nadu government said sale and transport of liquor and opening of bars will be restricted in nine districts due for rural local body elections soon. The restrictions are also applicable to 28 districts where casual elections (to fill vacant posts) are to take place on October 9.
Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Police auctioned around 1,350 unclaimed vehicles that were seized in criminal cases, and received a sum of Rs 2.60 crore that was credited to the public exchequer.
