MS Dhoni won’t retire after IPL 2021, wants to play farewell game in Chennai | Cricket News – Times of India

Chennai News

CHENNAI: Ever since Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15 last year, there have been speculations over his future in the IPL. There was also a buzz that this season will be Dhoni’s last ahead of the mega-auctions for next year’s tournament.
Dhoni, though, confirmed on Tuesday that he is looking forward to continuing playing for Chennai Super Kings.
Speaking at India Cements’ Platinum Jubilee Year, Dhoni revealed that he wants to play his farewell match in Chennai before taking the final bow.
“There couldn’t have been a better date (August 15, 2020) to announce your retirement. When it comes to my farewell (match), you can always come and see me play for CSK and that can be my farewell game. So you (the fans) will still get the opportunity to bid me farewell. Hopefully, we will come to Chennai and play my last game over there and I can meet and entertain all the fans,” the CSK captain answered a question posed by an India Cements dealer in a virtual session.
It means that Dhoni will play for CSK next season when a new team is formed.

There will be fresh auctions at the end of this season and there were doubts whether the captain, after a not-so-good season with the bat, may not play another year.
But CSK management has always maintained that Dhoni will oversee the transition of CSK as a player and that would mean that he would play the next season in India. And now that Dhoni himself has mentioned that he wants to play his farewell match in Chennai should be good news for the CSK fans.
Dhoni, who is also the India Cements’ vice-president, marketing, was joined by his teammates Imran Tahir, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar.
India Cements vice-chairman and managing director was also present on the occasion.
On the field, Chennai Super Kings have managed to qualify for the IPL playoffs once again.
Dhoni said the reason behind the consistent success of the team is the fact that they always focused on the process instead of the results.
“We plan well and try to ensure that the process is right and don’t think too much about the results. We don’t think about the uncontrollable. We try to eliminate mistakes from our game. That helps us do well… And the success of CSK is not just about me, it is about the fact that we have a great team in place.”
Following the IPL, the former India captain will take up the role of Team India’s mentor during the T20 World Cup to be held in UAE later this month. Dhoni said that the country has always come first for him.
“For me, my country has always come first, followed by my parents and wife and child. That has helped me take crucial decisions in life. When you are at the moment and you follow a principle then decision making becomes a lot easier,” he said.
