CHENNAI: The Madras high court has reserved its verdict on an appeal moved by Nadigar Sangam (South Indian Artists Association) challenging an order cancelling election conducted to the association in 2019.
On January 24, 2020, a single judge of the court cancelled the election conducted to the association on a batch of pleas moved by members of the Sangam alleging irregularities in the election.
The judge declared the already concluded election as null and void and also appointed a retired judge of the high court as election officer to conduct a fresh election to the sangam within three months.
This apart, the single judge also dismissed the pleas moved by current office-bearers of the sangam – actors Vishal, Karthi and Nassar – challenging the appointment of a special officer to administer day-to-day affairs of the association.
Aggrieved, the association moved an appeal. Admitting the appeal, a division bench of the court passed an interim stay against the order of the single judge.
The bench, however, clarified that a special officer appointed by the Tamil Nadu government shall administer the day-to-day affairs of the association.
On Tuesday, a division bench headed by Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana concluded the hearing and reserved their verdict.
