Man accused of raping girl in Odisha held in Chennai – Times of India

CHENNAI: A man who escaped from Odisha after raping a minor girl four years ago has been arrested from New Washermenpet . The suspect went to his family ahead of Diwali and police tracked his movement and nabbed him in Chennai.
A police team from the Pallahara police station in Angul district, Odisha came to Chennai and informed the New Washermenpet police about the accused staying in their jurisdiction.
A joint team went to the place and nabbed Sanjay Kumar Panda. He was brought to the New Washermenpet police station, where he was questioned.
The Odisha police later took the suspect to Odisha by train on Friday night. Police said Sanjay Kumar sexually assaulted a girl and when he learnt that police were after him, he came down to Chennai as a migrant worker.
He worked at a rice mandi in New Washermenpet for the past four years. He stayed aloof and didn’t reach any of his relatives. However, the Pallahara police who kept tracking his family members’ mobile call details, found a random call reaching one of his family members recently.
Police traced the call to Sanjay Kumar. Later, they came down to Chennai and nabbed him.
