CHENNAI: As many as 281 companies have lined up for campus placement at IIT Madras for 2021-22, a 21% increase over the previous year when 231 firms registered.
Phase 1 of campus placements will begin on December 1.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic and online internships, the pre-placement offers (PPOs) received by students at IIT-Madras increased by 41 offers compared to the previous year.
“If we look at the number of companies registered for campus placements, the trend looks very positive this year. The number of companies and job profiles offered increased compared to last year. There is a good mix of IT software, core engineering, and R & D companies this year,” said C S Shankar Ram, advisor (training and placement), IIT Madras.
The job profiles have also been consistent in the past three years with companies offering IT software and core engineering roles, R&D along with analytics, consulting and finance, he added.
As many as 227 PPOs have been made to IIT-Madras students during the 2021-22 as against 186 offers during the entire 2020-21 academic year. Qualcomm and Microsoft offered 18 and 14 pre-placement offers this year.
All the students have done the internships online this year. “The increase in PPOs shows students and companies adapted well to online mode internships,” said Shankar Ram. Startups were actively offered internships, he said and expressed the hope that these would translate into placements as well.
APT Portfolio, Toyota Connected, MTX IT Consulting Services, DE Shaw group, Huawei India R and D were some of the companies which offered PPOs for the first time.
