Two fifth semester students – Mohammed Anshif from Naduvanad, and Ajinas of Mattannur – from BA Economics were also suspended. Further action will be taken in the coming days as a committee has been constituted to conduct an enquiry.
The incident pertaining to the case happened on November 5 when P Anshad, a second year BA Economics student, was assaulted by a gang of 15 students, including the arrested ones, inside the washroom of the college. After the attack, he had reportedly lost his consciousness for hours, before being taken to the hospital.
While giving his statement, Anshad told the police that he was assaulted by the gang when he returned from lunch on Friday. He told the police that they had attacked him for talking to girl students. Also, they allegedly demanded money and when Anshad refused, they hit him until he became unconscious.
The police are taking statements from various students and faculty at the college. They are also checking whether similar incidents had happened in the past.
