Release of water from Chennai’s Chembarambakkam and Red Hills lakes to be increased by Wednesday noon – Times of India

CHENNAI: State PWD authorities are planning to increase the release of surplus water from both Red Hills and Chembarambakkam reservoirs in Chennai by Wednesday noon.
At present 1,500 cubic feet of water per second (cusecs) is being released from each of these reservoirs. This is expected to be increased to 2,000 cusecs by noon.
The PWD started releasing 7,000 cusecs of water from the Poondi reservoir on Tuesday. As the inflow is slow, the authorities are planning to maintain this discharge. Later in the evening, they would decide on either increasing or reducing the release of water from the Poondi lake, said a PWD executive engineer.
