Chennai, Tamil Nadu Live News: A 47-year-old man who had arrived from Nigeria, along with six of his family members a few days ago, has tested positive for the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, marking the first such case being reported in Tamil Nadu, according to the State Minister Ma Subramanian.

The passenger who arrived here from Nigeria via Doha on December 10 had tested Covid-19 positive and six of his family members too had tested positive for the virus, the Minister for Medical and Family Welfare said.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu officials Wednesday searched multiple premises linked to a former state minister and said they discovered several crores of unaccounted wealth, besides large sums in the form of cryptocurrency. The search operations by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption targeted at least 14 premises associated with former electricity minister and AIADMK leader P Thangamani in Vellore, Salem, Karur, Namakkal, Tirupur and Coimbatore besides one place in Karnataka and two in Andhra Pradesh.

Also, Tamil Nadu reported 640 new Covid-19 infections on Wednesday, pushing the caseload to 27,37,335, while the death toll rose to 36,644 with 11 more deaths. Recoveries eclipsed new infections with 692 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 26,93,143 leaving 7,548 active infections.
