Chennai announces ban on vehicle movement on New Year’s eve – India Today

The Tamil Nadu police have banned vehicle movement on Chennai roads on New Year’s eve. The restriction will be applicable from 12 am to 5 am on January 1.

The restriction on vehicle movement comes in addition to the curbs announced on December 28, banning celebrations in public places, including beaches.

The police have urged citizens to reach home prior to 12am on December 31. Only essential and emergency services are exempted under this rule.

Parking of vehicles near the beach has also been prohibited. The movement of vehicles will also be prohibited on the beach roads from 9 pm on December 31.

Around 10,000 police personnel will be on duty in the city to check for any violations.
